Junior Master Gardeners
The LSU Hilltop Arboretum’s newest gardening program for children (grades 2-5th) is a collaborative effort with the Junior League of Baton Rouge and the Louisiana Master Gardeners.
What is the JMG program? JMG, developed by the University Cooperative Extension Network, is a highly successful program that introduces young gardeners to the fun, art and science of gardening. A JMG certificate is earned when a child completes gardening activities from eight chapters in the JMG Handbook by attending three camps at Hilltop during one calendar year (see camp schedule below). This is a very prestigious award for any young gardener who has the time and commitment to complete! However, if you choose to enroll your child in only one or two camps they will receive chapter pins as a reward for their participation.
